What is the Average Cost per Graft in Canada?
Across Canada, the per/graft price can range by as much as 400%, from as low as $3.00 per/graft to as high as $12.00 per/graft depending on the clinic and its location.
What is the Average Cost Per Graft?
In the GTA Canada, the price per hair graft ranges from $3.50 per/graft to $7.00 per/graft, with the average being $5.50 per/graft.
Calculating your hair transplant cost
The equation is relatively simple, you multiply the price per graft by the estimated total number of grafts required.
How much is 2000 hair grafts?
Based on a $4.00 per/graft price 2000 hair grafts would cost approximately $8,000
- $4.00(our per graft price) * 2000(number of grafts needed) = $8,000.00
How much is 4000 hair grafts?
Based on a $4.00 per/graft price 4000 hair grafts would cost approximately $16,000
- $4.00(our per graft price) * 4000(number of grafts needed) = $16,000.00
How many grafts will I need?
Most people don’t know how many grafts they’ll need because they don’t know how many transplanted hair grafts it takes to fill a given area of hair loss or thinning hair to achieve full healthy hair growth? The right answer is not exactly the same for everyone and ranges from 1,200 – 1,500.
Approximating The Number of hair grafts You’ll Need
An area of hair loss that is the size of your fist generally requires 1,200 – 1,500 donor hair grafts each containing at least one hair follicle to fill depending on your hair calibre, angulation, and other characteristics ie: straight, wavy, curly.
Calculating Your total Hair Transplant Cost
Using this rule of thumb, you should be able to approximate how many grafts you will need within a reasonable margin of error. Do you have a hair loss area of one fist, two fists, or more? Multiply the number of fists by 1350 (average healthy hair follicle density) to get a good approximation of the number of grafts you’ll need, then multiply the number of grafts needed by the per/graft price. Sure Hair International charges an average of $4.00 per graft.
How many surgical sessions will you need?
Most of the time only one hair transplant procedure is needed.
However in cases with more advanced stages of hair loss, on the Norwood scale for male pattern baldness of 4.5 or above will often require more than one session.
Breaking up the hair restoration into two sessions can also help you financially.
Cost of FUE vs FUT
Which hair transplantation procedure will you choose?
Will you have a Follicular Unit Extraction, also referred to as an FUE procedure? Or will you have a Follicular Unit Transplant also referred to as FUT procedure?
FUE is much more labour intensive than the FUT. Although both are types of hair transplantation and can also be classified as facial plastic surgery, the cost per graft for an FUE hair transplant surgery can be more expensive compared to FUT hair transplant surgery. FUE can cost approximately 30% – 40% more than FUT because extracting donor hair from the patient donor area is much more labour intensive for the plastic surgeon or hair transplant surgeon and his team.
The obvious advantage of FUT over an FUE is cost. However, there is another advantage, the number of grafts that can be harvested from FUE vs FUT can be quite different. FUT will generally yield proportionally more hair grafts than FUE.
Therefore, if you have a relatively large area of hair loss, one FUT session might be the most cost-effective option as it will give you more grafts in one session, getting you closer to a full head of hair more efficiently.
Obtaining a free hair transplant cost estimate
During your consultation, our cosmetic surgery doctor will provide you with an estimate of the number of grafts required to achieve the results you desire and the number of sessions required; usually, only one session is needed.

Hair Transplant Cost in Toronto | Dr. Ashlin Alexander One of the first questions you may have wondered about is “how much does a hair transplant cost?” Good question! Dr. Alexander provides free hair transplant consultations to evaluate your hair transplant needs and to determine whether you are good candidate for hair restoration surgery. We encourage you to book a consultation with Dr. Alexander to explore all of your hair restoration options. Types of Hair Transplants Performed by Dr. Alexander Dr. Alexander is a dual fellowship-trained, board-certified plastic surgeon who has focused his practice exclusively on procedures of the hair, face, and neck. He performs a range of hair transplant procedures with varying prices, depending on the type of hair transplant and the extent of treatment. Strip (FUG) Hair Transplant To perform Follicular Unit Grafting (FUG) hair transplantation, Dr. Alexander removes a single strip of donor hairs from the back of the scalp and meticulously closes the incision where the strip was removed to leave a virtually undetectable, single fine line. Individual micrografts are then transplanted along the hairline to create a natural appearance of thicker hair, with long-lasting results. Hair grows on the head in individual follicular units, each typically containing one to four hairs. Dr. Alexander uses follicular unit micrografts of varying densities to craft natural-looking, aesthetically pleasing hair restoration. He places single-hair grafts along the hairline in an irregular pattern, and places grafts with two to four hairs farther back on the scalp to create visual density. FUE Hair Transplant The advantage of the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplant technique is that it completely avoids a linear scar at the donor site in the back of the head. This is accomplished by harvesting hair grafts one at a time using precise punch blades 0.8 to 1mm in diameter. Rather than leaving a linear scar, the FUE technique leaves virtually undetectable pinpoint scars dispersed throughout the back of the scalp. If you undergo this procedure,…
The 7 Biggest Downsides of Hair Transplants – External Affairs
The 7 Biggest Downsides of Hair Transplants – External Affairs Until recently there have basically been three different types of hair transplants available that would help restore hair to its former glory: OLD SCHOOL HAIR TRANSPLANT This type of transplant requires that an elongated football of skin is removed from the lower back of the head, in the area that is normally resistant to male pattern baldness. The skin is then sutured back together, leaving a permanent scar that can be hidden by hair, in most cases. The skin flap then goes to, generally, two nurses or technicians that work under binocular microscopes dissecting out individual follicles. The follicles will have one, two or three, and rarely four hairs growing out of it. The technicians will separate each of the three different types into petri dishes. The surgeon is meanwhile, using a small cutting instrument to make tiny holes in the anesthetized scalp paying particular attention to the intended direction of hair growth. The direction of the incisions will match the intended direction of growth. The surgeon will then gather up ones and begin implanting them at the hair line. The next wave will be twos and finally fill will generally be done with threes. FOLLICULAR UNIT EXTRACTION (FUE) FUE is evolutionary for hair transplant surgery in that no large incision on the back of the head is required and hence no long surgical scar will ever be revealed by too short of a haircut or progressive balding. A small cylindrical surgical tool is used to extract follicles individually from the donor area. Each follicle is then manually implanted in the area of baldness. ROBOTIC FFOLLICULAR EXTRACTION As the name suggests, a $500,000 CAN robot reads the donor area and like FUE, it extracts individual follicles. The implant of the harvested follicles is still done manually. 7 REASONS HAIR TRANSPLANTS AREN’T EFFECTIVE 1. It is time consuming and tedious work. A single session will take around 8 hours. Go too long and the success rate drops dramatically as follicles die due to extended air exposure. 2. A well-oiled team can transplant up to 3000 follicles in a single session. Most men need more in order to achieve good density and coverage and a second session is often advised. 3. Big failure rate. Between 10% and 90% of all follicles transplanted will die. 4. Hair transplant cost is based on the number of follicles transplanted. Each individual follicle costs the patient between $3 and $8, depending on who is doing it. Use $6/follicle as a good average transplant cost in Edmonton. So, $6 X 3000 follicles = $18,000 for hair transplant cost. If you are choosing hair transplant we do not suggest you shop based on price. If you have not seen a bad transplant, just google it. There are plenty of examples to look at. 5. If you do not treat the underlying causes of hair loss, recession will continue. This will leave you with a separation of baldness between the implanted area and your own hair. To avoid embarrassment, men have two choices, shave the head, or go for another round of hair transplant surgery 6. Surgery has risks and there is down-time. You will leave the surgeon’s office with your head wrapped in a dressing to avoid infection. Your scalp will be very tender. You may be put on a round of anti-biotics as a precaution. 7. All or most of the implanted hairs will fall out post-surgery. The follicles that survive will begin to grow hair. Expect a minimum of a year or more to see the final result. Expect two years before the implanted hair blends in with the natural hair. If you are lucky and have a great surgeon, the results may meet your expectations and the fact that you underwent hair transplant surgery may be undetectable. However, the cost per follicle, down-time, limitations in the number of transplants per session, risk of infection, cost associated with multiple surgeries…
How much does a Hair Transplant Cost | Edmonton
How much does a Hair Transplant Cost | Edmonton | Nakatsui Hair How Much Does a Hair Transplant Cost in Edmonton? For the typical patient, we charge between $2.50-$8 per graft depending on the type of transplant (FUE vs. FUT) and the number of grafts. The price of a transplant in Edmonton can range from $2000 to over $12000. The average cost of hair restoration surgery ranges from $5500-$6500. FUE hair transplant costs are higher than FUT hair transplant costs because of the increased time and effort required to perform the procedures. Consequently, the price for FUE is typically around $7-8 per graft whereas the price for FUT is less and ranges from $2.50-$7.00 per graft. As an example, the average graft price for a 2500 graft FUT procedure would be a little over $4 per graft and the cost of a 2000 graft FUT procedure would be $9500. These prices are fairly typical for the best known clinics in Vancouver, Toronto, and throughout Canada in 2021. Can you Charge By Area? Of course we can. We can easily charge by area if that is your preference. If you would prefer this approach, let us know and Dr. Nakatsui will decide your hair transplant cost based upon desired area to be transplanted, desired density, type of transplant (FUE vs. FUT), and coarseness and quality of your hair. We will also let you know approximately how many grafts will be implanted so that you can compare our plan with other consultations you may get. Let’s face it: a great hair transplant surgeon should definitely be able to tell you approximately how many grafts will be needed for your surgery. If your doctor will not or cannot, we would suggest you look elsewhere, so we highly recommend that you ask. We also recommend you use our list of questions when considering a transplant. How Much do Hair Plugs Cost in Edmonton? Fortunately, we can’t tell you how much hair plugs cost as we do not think anyone actually implants true hair plugs anymore in Edmonton let alone Canada as most surgeons use that term to refer to the large multi-follicular unit grafts they used to use in the 1980s for hair loss. The current state of the art is follicular unit hair grafts or implants. Why Charge by the Number of Grafts? Dr. Nakatsui truly believes the fairest way to determine hair restoration cost is by the number of grafts because the patient has a better idea of what they are getting but will charge by area if desired. Most of the best hair restoration clinics in North America charge by number of grafts. One of the reasons for charging by the graft can be illustrated by the following example. Example 1 Let us suppose that Patients A and B both receive a hair transplant for their androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness). Patient A receives 500 grafts in a given area; Patient B receives dense packing and gets 1000 grafts in the exact same area to achieve a higher density. Does it make sense the cost is the same even though Patient A only had half as many grafts implanted? In fact, Patient A was likely less than half…
Cost of Hair Transplants in Toronto (2019)
Cost of Hair Transplants in Toronto (2019) While Dr. Asaria is highly trained and fully qualified to do many facial reconstructive procedures, he will only do what is right for you and what you want to achieve. He is so focused on achieving exceptional hair rejuvenation, that he performs no more than one procedure per day. Experience has taught him that surgeons who concentrate on high volume can lose quality and the personalization that amazing results require. Again, there are no compromises when a perfect result is the goal. This is why there are so many factors that go into your Toronto hair transplant cost.If you have any further questions about hair restoration, beard or eyebrow transplants, at Dr. Asaria’s office, please refer to our FAQ or call our office.Hair Restoration FAQ “My approach, and my process demands that I take my time, as much time as it takes to get it exactly right. There are no compromises.” How is the cost of a hair transplant determined?Wondering what determines the cost of hair transplant in Toronto? The biggest factor is the amount of hair loss that the patient has. Patients with significant hair loss require more time to carefully harvest, prepare and place thousands of individual follicles.Another factor is the amount of donor hair the patient has available. For both techniques used by Dr. Asaria, the donor site is at the back of the head. If there is less donor hair available, there will be fewer follicles available to transplant. While this limits the surgery session size, the planning and placement of each follicle requires much more planning to achieve an acceptable cosmetic result. A general estimation of costThe number of grafts being used is a determining factor as well as the location of the grafts. For example, an eyebrow transplant or beard transplant requires a much more delicate technique and additional time. The surgery is not fully based on the number of grafts to be used but on the final outcome and how to best achieve it. Planning the outcome in terms of where the hairline will be or how dense can the crown can be filled in and the harvest technique will also determine final cost.Generally, a small area of hair transplantation will cost approximately $3,500 and the cost can range up to $17,500 for a large session of FUE. A personal consultation and examination is necessary to determine the costs for each individual patient. Toronto offers many choices The Toronto hair transplant cost varies, due to Toronto having many hair transplantation clinics and spas. Many of these use automated techniques that speed up the process allowing costs to be cut. Two of the most popular robotic methods are Artas and NeoGraft. Dr. Asaria does not use these computer-guided techniques as he feels they do not allow for the artistic and painstaking placement of each follicle. Hair Transplant Cost | Here's What You Really Get For The Price
Here’s What You Really Get for the Cost of a Hair Transplant Dr. Cory Torgerson Planning a cosmetic procedure can be pricey. When it comes to hair transplant costs, understanding what’s involved and, more importantly, what you get for your investment is critical. We’re going to help break it down for you: what does a hair transplant cost in Canada, what does the procedure involve, and what is the ideal outcome you can expect when you take the bold step of restoring your hair? The answers are coming up. Since the results of a hair transplant are (thankfully) permanent, getting it done right is just as important as the cost. Of course, as with any procedure, the quality and longevity of the work are affected by the practitioner you choose. Considering that it costs over $10,000 in most cases for a full, extensive procedure, you’ll want to ensure that you’ve selected a top-notch hair surgeon and that you’re paying for complete service that you’ll be pleased with. Dr. Cory Torgerson is a facial plastic surgeon specializing in the head and neck, with extensive experience in restorative hair surgery. Dr. Cory Torgerson is fully accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and he is renowned among colleagues and clients for his expertise and medical training. In Toronto, no matter the cost, hair transplant is one of the most rewarding services we provide for men and women. Unlike some surgeries such as a facial implant or lift, the hair restoration process requires an investment of finances and time. The whole cycle of a hair’s growth, from the initial signs of success to full thickness, will take from 3 to 12 months. In addition, some people plan more than one procedure in combination or subsequently to achieve the complete, dramatic transformation they want. This is one of many good reasons to select a highly experienced surgeon that you know you can trust and build a long-term relationship with. Your pre-operative assessment and planning, the procedure itself, then multiple visits to keep track of progress all combine to create a satisfying and successful hair restoration. Hair Transplant Cost We invite clients to book no-obligation consultations with us. During the appointment, you’ll be examined, and your personal situation will be discussed. Your type and rate of hair loss will determine the procedure methods recommended for you. The follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplant technique is most commonly requested by patients at our clinic. One of the major benefits of the FUE method is that it leaves no linear scars. For many years, the strip method, which excises a long piece of the scalp to be dissected, was the only tried and true option. While it could yield high graft numbers, today’s patients steer clear of the unavoidable scarring as much as possible. Comparatively, FUE allows the surgeon to remove tiny grafts one by one, leaving barely visible scars that don’t give away your procedure. You’ll receive a personalized quotation after you’ve discussed your treatment plan with Dr. Torgerson. We’ll also provide you with a cost estimate that shows you the price for all surgical fees, staff, procedure, anaesthetic, and post-operative care appointments in one inclusive price.
